von Lisa Hofer (07.10.2007) Die Elfenkönige ließen sich schon immer ungern auf einen Stil festnageln und auch das vierte Album der Italiener kann man nicht so einfach in eine Schublade zwängen. Irgendwo zwischen druckvollem cleanen Gesang, bösen Growls, reichhaltigen Chören, Folk Melodien, verspielten orchestralen Parts und reichlich Samples haben Elvenking nach nunmehr zehn Jahren Bandgeschichte ihren eigenen Sound auf "The scythe" in ausgereifter Form festgehalten. Ihre Musik ist nach wie vor sehr dicht gedrängt, abwechslungsreich und druckvoll, allerdings gelingt es den Südländern nun mehr denn je ihre Kunst glaubwürdig zu vermitteln. Jedes der elf Lieder hat eine eigene Atmosphäre und stellt eine in sich geschlossene Einheit dar. Songs wie "Infection" oder "Poison tears" zeigen die Vielfältigkeit der Formation und machen Lust auf mehr. Die Gitarren fallen härter aus als in der Vergangenheit, der Gesang ist zielstrebig nach vorn gerichtet und dennoch kommen Melodien nicht zu kurz. Ohrwürmer sind garantiert, gute Laune ebenso.
